A Springfield Township man who was sentenced to 44 years in prison for assaulting his ex-wife at a retirement village lost a second appeal he filed over that sentence.

Ohio’s 6th District Court of Appeals on Friday affirmed the sentence Michael Swiergosz, 51, received in Lucas County Common Pleas Court in 2010 after a jury found him guilty on multiple charges of rape, kidnapping, and assault and for a felonious assault charge from a separate incident.

In 2009, he took a gun to the place where his ex-wife worked, struck her in the head with a tire iron, bound her, raped her, and held her hostage more than five hours.
