Toledoan Rashad Gaines admitted in court Tuesday that he shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend and was sent to prison.

Gaines, 21, of 907 Paxton St., pleaded guilty to felonious assault with a gun specification before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Stacy Cook, who sentenced him to five years in prison. Charges of aggravated burglary and kidnapping were dismissed as a part of a plea agreement.

Gaines shot and wounded Steven Parks, 27, in the back while he was in bed at his girlfriend’s house in the 1100 block of Country Creek Lane Aug. 3.
