A South Toledo man charged with stabbing his mother to death was indicted Monday by a Lucas County grand jury.

Anthony Bertolina, 34, of 3158 Winston Blvd. was indicted for aggravated murder and murder in the Dec. 9 slaying of Mary Bertolina, 56, at the home they shared.

Jeff Lingo, chief of the criminal division for the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, said the indictment alleges Mr. Bertolina had “a prior plan to kill his mother.” He declined to comment on a possible motive.

Ms. Bertolina, a longtime Blade employee, was found in a bedroom of her home about 12:30 p.m. after her supervisor contacted police to check on her safety after she did not report for work and could not be reached. An autopsy showed she had been stabbed once in the back of the neck and twice in the chest.
