A Toledo man charged with assaulting a Sylvania police officer at Northview High School was found incompetent to stand trial Friday.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Gene Zmuda ordered that Charles Lambert, 48, of 4008 Marlaine Dr. be committed to the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital in Toledo for up to one year.

He made his finding after receiving a report by Mark Pittner, a clinical psychologist at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center, who evaluated Mr. Lambert and determined that while he is not currently able to assist with his defense, he could be restored to competency with proper treatment.

Mr. Lambert, who repeatedly spoke out while the judge was talking, was arrested Nov. 11 after police approached him at Northview High School and asked him why he was there. He allegedly ignored their questions and struggled with officers when they tried to stop him.

Judge Zmuda scheduled a March 12 hearing to receive an updated report on Mr. Lambert’s competency to stand trial.
