Police allege that John Zimmerman, 53, of 150 Maryland Ave. attempted to rob two Toledo businesses. He is charged with two counts of robbery and remained in the Lucas County jail Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 bond.

He was arraigned Monday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Police said a man who acted as if he had a gun in a pocket walked into Marco’s Pizza, 149 Main St., at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to rob the place, but the store employee refused to give the bandit any cash, so he fled, police said.

A few hours later, at 5 p.m., a man went into Tobacco Island, 714 Dearborn Ave., and acted as if he had a gun in the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt, according to court documents. He demanded cash from a store employee, was given an unspecified amount, and fled, police said.
