A Toledo man accused of delivering the beating that ultimately caused the death of a taxi driver was arraigned Tuesday in Toledo Municipal Court.

Curtis McDuffey, Jr., 31, of 2734 Wayman Palmer Ct. is charged with involuntary manslaughter. Judge Robert Christiansen ordered the suspect remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Police allege that the suspect got into a fight with William Moore, 66, on April 28 outside Chuck’s on Monroe, 4477 Monroe St., where Mr. Moore was looking for fares. Mr. Moore died at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center on May 5. The victim had a history of heart disease, so his death was not flagged by police until the Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide in November.

The suspect is to appear in court on Feb. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
