BOWLING GREEN – The mother of a 3-month-old baby who died from abusive head trauma inflicted by his father was sentenced today to the maximum three-year prison term.

Rebecca Steinmiller, 27, of Bowling Green had pleaded guilty Oct. 29 to one count of endangering children, a third-degree felony, for failing to seek medical treatment for her son, Carter Steinmiller, or to inform someone about his injuries. The infant died May 5, 2012, several days after his right arm was broken.

In November, Judge Robert Pollex sentenced the victim's father, Brian Steinmiller, 32, to 14 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and two counts of endangering children. Prosecutors said young Carter had suffered injuries almost from the day he was born, including 23 bone fractures.
