A Toledo man was sentenced to 19 years in prison Tuesday for a series of robberies he committed at local businesses.

Gregory Schaffer, 46, of 3624 Anderson Pkwy. entered Alford pleas to two counts of robbery before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart.

The charges stemmed from an April 18 hold-up at Dollar General, 236 New Towne Square Dr., and an April 19 robbery at the Subway restaurant, 5805 Monroe St. in Sylvania. Andy Lastra, an assistant Lucas County prosecutor, said that in both incidents, Schaffer acted as if he had a gun and threatened to shoot the clerks.

Judge Duhart sentenced Schaffer to 13 years in prison for the two charges and a specification making Schaffer a repeat violent offender. Six years were added for two robbery convictions in 2012 for which Schaffer had been on community control.
