A Toledo man who drove the getaway car after a robbery and led police on a high-speed, 20-mile chase afterward has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Jose Costilla, Jr., 29, of 1218 Nevada St. had pleaded guilty Jan. 13 to failure to comply with the signal of a police officer before Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart. At his sentencing Tuesday, he also admitted to violating the conditions of community control imposed for a 2008 forgery and theft conviction.

Costilla’s co-defendant, Christopher Sargent, 20, of 2224 Sylvania Ave. was sentenced last week to eight years in prison for robbing a woman of her purse at gunpoint Oct. 10 in East Toledo, then fleeing with Costilla on a chase that extended into Monroe County.

“You could easily be standing here having killed someone,” Judge Duhart told Costilla.
