Man arraigned in 
East Toledo murder

A Toledo man will appear in court today on a murder charge for the fatal shooting of a man last month in East Toledo, authorities said.

Deontay Smith, 24, 418 Dexter St. was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on Tuesday and ordered held at the Lucas County jail in lieu of $1 million bond. His case was continued to today at his request.

He is charged with murder in the shooting death of Michael Macklin, Jr., 20, at Greenwood and Walden avenues, Toledo police said. He was arrested about 6 p.m. Monday in the 6100 block of Trust Drive in Holland.

Mr. Macklin was shot about 1 a.m. Feb. 2 in East Toledo while in his car, trying to flee from others who may have gotten into an altercation with him at Club Ellyzees, 319 N. Superior St., police said.
