A Toledo teen who was certified to stand trial as an adult for a robbery and shooting has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Jaquan Faulkner, 18, of 1241 Avondale Ave., entered an Alford plea last week to aggravated robbery with a firearms specification for a Nov. 1 incident in which he put a gun to the heads of a couple who gave him a ride from the east side to the 1100 block of Waverly Avenue and tried to rob them. The driver sped off, and at least one shot was fired, hitting the man in his left shoulder.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit to committing a crime but acknowledges evidence is sufficient for a conviction that could result in a more severe sentence.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart dismissed a count of felonious assault and a count of aggravated robbery as part of the plea deal.
