BOWLING GREEN — Two Elmwood High School students were charged Wednesday with delinquency in connection with theft for soliciting funds for a teacher they told people had cancer.

Wood County Prosecutor Paul Dobson said the charges were filed in Wood County Juvenile Court against a 17-year-old and 14-year-old boy, both of whom allegedly went door-to-door in Wood and Hancock counties with the scam.

The charge is a fifth-degree felony, he said, because in the case of the 17-year-old, at least one victim was elderly, while in the case of the 14-year-old, the amount of the theft was in excess of $1,000.
