Ex-Toledoan who raped young girl gets 11 years

A former Toledo man convicted of raping a young girl in 2012 was sentenced Tuesday to 11 years in prison by Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Myron Duhart.

Robert Tibbits, 38, who now lists an address in Perrysburg Township, also was classified as a sex offender who must register his address with the sheriff of the county where he lives once he is released from prison. He was arrested last July by U.S. Marshals who found him in a trailer in Owensboro, Ky.

Last month, Tibbits entered an Alford plea to one count of rape, which means he did not admit guilt but conceded enough evidence existed for a conviction that could lead to a more severe sentence. A second count of rape was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
