Testimony in the trial of a Swanton Township man charged with the murder of his estranged wife’s boyfriend is to get under way today in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

A jury was seated Monday to hear the case of David Zielinski, 34, of 3859 Berkey Southern Rd., who is charged with aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, and attempted murder as well as specifications that allege he used a firearm to commit the crimes.

The charges stem from the July 14 death of Michael Jackson, 20, of Toledo and the kidnapping and attempted murder of Amber Hayes, 27, with whom Mr. Zielinski was married at the time.

Also Monday, jurors were taken to the scene of the alleged crimes, including Ms. Hayes’s home at 1605 W. Central Ave. where Mr. Jackson was stabbed and shot to death in a bedroom. Opening statements are set for 8:30 a.m. today.
