UPPER SANDUSKY, Ohio — A man who shot and killed two people last year at the Carey Conservation Sportsman Association was sentenced today to life in prison.

Richard L. Clark, Jr., 65, pleaded guilty last month to two counts of aggravated murder in the November deaths of Roger Fredritz, 49, of rural Carey, and Cynthia Hawkinberry, 49, of rural Tiffin.

He was sentenced today before Wyandot County Common Pleas Court Judge Kathleen Aubry to life in prison without parole on each count plus a total of six years in prison for firearm specifications on the two charges. The sentence will be imposed consecutively.

“It is the sentence that the state and [the victims' families] requested,” said prosecuting attorney Jonathan Miller.

Mr. Miller said that family and friends of the defendant spoke on his behalf at the sentencing, as well as the defendant and loved ones of the two victims.

Clark is the former fiance of Ms. Hawkinberry.
