Grand jury indicts council member on theft charge

WAUSEON — City Council member Fred L. Allen was indicted this week by a Fulton County grand jury for allegedly stealing from the county.

Mr. Allen, 61, was charged with theft in office and tampering with records for conduct that occurred between Jan. 12, 2012, and Feb. 6, 2012. Information from the prosecutor’s office stated that he allegedly “stole property or services owned by a county. He also allegedly tampered with records belonging to a governmental entity.”

Neither Fulton County Prosecutor Scott Haselman or Mr. Allen could be reached for comment Wednesday.

Mr. Allen, who also serves as assistant fire chief for the Wauseon Fire Department, is a member of the board of directors of the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
