A longtime employee of Heidtman Steel was sentenced Monday to four years in prison for the attempted rape of a 5-year-old girl.

Timothy Rooks, Sr., 58, of 881 Prouty Ave. entered an Alford plea May 30 to attempted rape for the Dec. 8, 2012 incident.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges evidence is sufficient for a conviction that could result in a more severe sentence.

Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Dean Mandros, who noted that DNA evidence linked Rooks to the crime, also classified him as a sex offender who must register his address with the sheriff in the county where he lives every 90 days for the rest of his life.
