A 28-year-old Toledo man appeared in Toledo Municipal Court today after he was accused of causing a vehicle collision with a Toledo police cruiser that sent two officers to the hospital.

Bond for Matthew Hartford of 308 Oakdale Ave. was set at $200,000 on each of two counts of felonious assault, with no ability to pay a lower amount in order to be released from the Lucas County Jail.

The collision early Thursday morning sent officers Jeron Ellis and Todd Mikolajczyk, both 30, to the hospital, initially in serious condition. Officer Mikolajczyk was listed in fair condition today at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where Officer Ellis is no longer listed as a patient.

According to police, Hartford was fleeing a Bowling Green state trooper who had tried to stop him for speeding. He collided with the Toledo officers' vehicle on East Broadway in East Toledo after running a stop sign. The Toledo officers were not involved in the chase.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 11 before Judge Michelle Wagner.
