Man guilty of throwing fireworks at police vehicle
7/7/2014A Toledo man was found guilty Saturday of throwing fireworks at a police vehicle.
John Hernandez, 39, of 2239 Dundee Ave., was charged with one misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of fireworks discharge, ignite, or explode. He pleaded no contest in Toledo Municipal Court and was found guilty, according to court records. He is to be sentenced on Aug. 25.
According to a police report, officers Darnell Peters and Keith Hurst, members of the gang unit, were driving with lights and sirens activated to a weapons call in North Toledo when the suspect allegedly threw fireworks in front of the police vehicle. After officers finished at the weapons call, at Erie and Cincinnati streets, they returned to where the fireworks were thrown — 1311 Erie — and confronted the suspect.
The suspect reportedly told the officers he had thrown the fireworks. He was then arrested and booked into the Lucas County jail. During his arraignment Saturday, the suspect‘s bond was set at his own recognizance and he was released.
