Bond set at $300,000 in Check ’n Go robbery

A judge set bond Wednesday at $300,000 for the man police accuse of robbing a convenience store at gunpoint.

Clarence Liggons III, 35, of the 400 block of Conrad Avenue, was charged in Toledo Municipal Court with aggravated robbery and two counts of kidnapping after a reported theft Jan. 26 in West Toledo.

Police said a man entered Check ’n Go, 5200 Monroe St., in a hooded sweatshirt and black mask. He ordered two employees to the rear of the business and threatened them with a firearm, authorities said.

One worker activated a silent alarm, and the man ran when police confronted him. He discarded his sweatshirt.

Police said a DNA test of the items matched Liggons.

He is to have a preliminary hearing March 11.
