A Maumee man charged in a catfishing scheme that prosecutors allege led to rape pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Cameron Vaughn, 19, of the 2200 block of Perrysburg-Holland Road is charged with two counts each of rape, sexual battery, extortion, and coercion, and one count of kidnapping. He had been held in the Lucas County jail on a $250,000 bond, but Judge Gary Cook increased his bond to $900,000 based on the additional charges contained in Monday's indictment.

Judge Cook appointed John Thebes as lead counsel for Mr. Vaughn, who is accused of luring a Sylvania man into a false relationship by posing online as a young woman, persuading him to send compromising images of himself, then using those images to blackmail him for sex.

A pretrial hearing was set for Feb. 28.
