Local bankruptcy filings steady in September

Filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo were essentially flat in September after dropping three straight months and decreasing in six of the last eight months.

Last month 399 cases were filed, compared to 401 filings in September, 2012. The Toledo court covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio. Through Sept. 30 there have been 4,053 cases, a 9 percent decrease from a year ago when there were 4,452 cases over the same period. A total of 3,707 Chapter 7 liquidationswere filed in the first nine months, down 9 percent from the same period a year ago.
