Local bankruptcy cases dropped 1 percent in July

Bankruptcy filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 1 percent in July compared with a year ago. It marked the 15th straight month that filings either declined or were flat, according to figures from the federal clerk of courts office.

The court said it recorded 420 filings, compared with 425 cases filed in July, 2013. The Toledo court covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

Since Jan. 1, 2,842 cases have been filed in the Toledo court since Jan. 1, an 11 percent drop over the same seven-month period in 2013.

Chapter 7 liquidation filings totaled 387 cases in July, a decrease of 1 percent from a year ago, and Chapter 13 repayment filings numbered 32, a drop of 6 percent.
