Rep. Latta honors Whitmer junior taking top spot in 5th District art competition

FINDLAY — U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) honored four students Saturday for their entries to his congressional district art competition.

The winner was Dana Richards, a junior at Whitmer High School, for her pencil drawing, Hopes and Dreams, which will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol tunnel for a year.

“I congratulate Dana for her creativity and artistic talent,” Mr. Latta said in a statement. “I’d also like to thank all of our students who participated in this year’s Congressional Art Competition and applaud them for such outstanding work.”

The competition in Mr. Latta’s district drew entries from 45 students representing 12 high schools. The University of Findlay art department faculty judged the works, and the awards ceremony was held at the Mazza Museum of International Art from Children’s Picture Books in Findlay.

Honorable Mention awards were given to Madison Isenberg, a senior at Ottawa Hills High School, for her watercolor-and-pen work, Scissors; Ashley Armstrong, a Whitmer High School senior, for her illustrator/charcoal, He is We, and Marissa Ann Sofalvi, a senior at Anthony Wayne High School, for her oil painting, Shells From Mother Nature. Their artwork will be displayed in one of Mr. Latta’s congressional offices for a year.
