Teachers in the Toledo Public Schools would receive a 1 percent raise Jan. 1, 2014 and again Jan. 1, 2015 under a proposal approved this morning by the board of education.

At a special 7:45 a.m. meeting, the board voted 5-0 to accept a fact finder’s report that recommended the small salary increases as well as a lift of the freeze that had been in place for “step increases,” which are granted to teachers based on years of service and advanced education degrees.

“I am pleased that we have agreed to this fact finder’s report,” board President Brenda Hill said after the vote. “It’s not a raise, but it is returning a small portion of what the staff gave up the last three years when sacrifices were made for our children and our schools because of declining school income.”

The Toledo Federation of Teachers, which represents some 1,800 teachers, was scheduled to vote on the report later today.
