MCCC prepares to host 3-D software confab

The applied science and engineering division at Monroe County Community College will host the first Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio SolidWorks User Group Conference from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Career Technology Center on the college’s main campus at 1555 S. Raisinville Rd.

SolidWorks is 3-D modeling software widely used in mechanical design and engineering applications. MCCC Professor Dean Kerste, a certified SolidWorks expert, leads the regional user group.

In other college events, comedian Heywood Banks will perform at the La-Z-Boy Center Meyer Theater on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The performance is part of the 2013-14 Encore events season in honor of the La-Z-Boy Center’s 10th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the college.

Mr. Banks, a Livingston County, Michigan, resident, is a regular guest on The Bob and Tom Show, a nationally syndicated radio program, and has been featured in Rolling Stone magazine.
