The head of the University of Toledo Medical Center could soon have a new job in Nebraska. Dr. Jeffrey Gold is the sole finalist for a position as the chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.

Dr. Gold, the chancellor and vice president for biosciences and health affairs, as well as executive dean at the former Medical College of Ohio, is in Nebraska today going through a series of interviews, including a public forum that will be held this afternoon, said Melissa Lee, a Nebraska University spokesman. According to Ms. Lee, students and the general public will have the opportunity to ask questions at the forum and Dr. Gold will discuss his vision for UNMC. He also met with Nebraska University leaders and search committee members last month, she said.

Dr. Gold has worked at UTMC for about eight years and was part of the team that oversaw the 2006 merger of the University of Toledo and the former Medical College of Ohio. He came to Toledo in May 2005 from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Medical Center in New York City where he was professor and chairman of the Department of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Gold bested three other candidates for the chancellor position to become the last candidate in the running for the Nebraska position. He will return to Toledo Saturday but University of Nebraska officials said they have no timetable for filling the role.
