Deb Soncrant is an excellent choice for "Teacher of the Month." She is very enthusiastic and passionate about her work and about art itself. She is structured and specific on the boundaries she gives her students while at the same time allowing them to discover or develop their creativity. Being a graduate of Clay High School, she has taken great pride in returning to her alma mater and in giving back to her school and community in such a positive manner that affects the youth of our community.

In 1995, Deb earned her Bachelor of Education degree in Elementary Education from the University of Toledo, graduated Summa Cum Laude, and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate of the Year Award. In 2004, she earned her Bachelor of Education and in 2010, her Master's Degree, both in Art Education from the University of Toledo and once again graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Deb serves on several committees such as: CHS Building Leadership Team, CHS Department Chair, OCFT representative, Oregon City Schools Wellness Committee, CHAFA (Clay High Alumni and Friends Association), Delta Kappa Gamma (sorority for educators), Pi Lambda Theta National Honor Society of Educators, OAEA (Ohio Arts Educator Association), NAEA (National Art Educator Association), and is currently co-advisor for Volunteer Focus and Assistant Advisor for Student Government. Deb has also earned the Excellence in Community Service Award in conjunction with Volunteer Focus at Clay High School.

"Deb Soncrant is a credit to her profession," said Mr. James Jurski, principal. "She is constantly exploring ways to improve her classes, the art department, and Clay High School. Deb is continually seeking ways to challenge students and encourages them to achieve at their highest levels. Deb is an outstanding teacher who is respected by the students, her colleagues and the community. We are fortunate to have Deb as a member of our faculty."
