School officials decided Wednesday afternoon to keep the junior high school closed today and tomorrow after about three dozen students either stayed home or left school early Wednesday because they were sick with the flu, Zach Silka, director of external relations for St. John's Jesuit High School and Academy, said.

Students participated in a freshman retreat over the weekend. Several were absent Monday from school.

The flu then spread through the 175-student academy.

School leaders decided to close the school to stop the flu from spreading and to allow students time to recuperate, Mr. Silka said.
