MONROE — The Monroe County Community College Board of Trustees has approved a 3 percent tuition increase for students.

Monroe County residents will pay $95 per credit hour starting this fall, up from $92. Michigan residents who do not live in the county will pay $163 per credit hour, up from $158, while students from out of state would pay $181, also a $5 per credit hour increase.

The board Monday cited a projected enrollment decline of about 5 percent and “basically flat” state funding and property tax revenue in its decision to raise tuition. “MCCC is truly facing a full-blown financial crisis,” MCCC board Vice Chairman William H. Braunlich said.

The increase will cost students from Monroe County an additional $90 a year if they take a full course load of 30 credits.
