The Maumee Board of Education authorized bidding for the purchase of two buses at a special meeting last week, one a 72-passenger conventional bus and the other a special needs bus. Superintendent Greg Smith said they will replace buses purchased in 1991 with, respectively, 160,000 and 200,000 miles on them.

The board also approved the attendance of 20 teachers at the Orton-Gillingham Advanced Training session to be held from Aug. 4 to Aug. 7 at Maumee High School. The cost per teacher is $800. The Maumee participants will include an intervention specialist along with third grade and English as a second language teachers.

The board also accepted the resignation of Joseph Taylor and approved payment of $4,797 for his 11.5 days of unused vacation. Mr. Taylor was an eight-year veteran of the district who spent six years as principal at Fairfield Elementary School and two years at the central office. The resignation is effective July 31.

At the request of Mr. Smith, planned Kazmaier Stadium repairs were pulled from the agenda so the superintendent could obtain more information. The repairs to the handicapped ramps were to cost $8,970.
