The Rossford Board of Education tonight approved placing a request for an additional 4.49-mill operating levy on the Nov. 4 ballot.

The board vote was 4-1 at the special meeting. Board member Beverly Koch was the lone no vote

The proposed new millage would extend for five years and generate $1.8 million annually. It would add $157.15 annually to the taxes owed by the owner of a $100,000 home.

The strapped district has been making ends meet since the 2010-2011 year by spending reserves. Those reserves, however, are expected to run out by the end of the 2016-2017 year. Absent new revenue, the projected deficits are $2.26 million by the end of 2017-2018 and $7.27 million a year later.

To cut costs, the district closed Indian Hills Elementary as a school building at the end of 2013-2014, and in May the board approved four teacher layoffs.
