Whitehouse plans recycling event on Earth Day

The Whitehouse village will hold its annual Earth Day recycling event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 at Village Park downtown. Clothing, household linens, small appliances, rechargeable batteries, clean used motor oil, plastic grocery bags, and cell phones will be accepted. Tires and items with Freon will be accepted for a small fee. Paint, household chemicals, televisions, and alkaline batteries will not be accepted.

Participants are encouraged to bring a canned good or other nonperishable food item for donation to local families. Allshred Services will be on hand to accept documents for shredding on site, up to a maximum of three boxes of documents. The shredding service will be available 10 a.m. to noon.

The police and fire departments will hold a drug drop-off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for outdated or unused prescriptions. The drop-off will be at the fire station, 10550 Waterville St.

The village is looking for volunteers to clean up the park during the event. A free lunch will be served to volunteers. Volunteers should bring gloves. Garbage bags will be supplied. Groups are welcome. Contact the village at 419-877-5383.
