ABOUT THE TEAM
Coach: Pat Gehrisch, second year
Last season: 4-6, 3-6 Blanchard Valley Conference
Returning letter winners: 11
Returning starters: Offense 6, defense 7
Schemes: Spread/4-2-5
Top players: Seniors Sawyer Kieffer, 5-9, 170, WR-DB, ; Bobby Vera, 6-0, 235, OL-DL,; Kody Rebarchek, 6-0, 180, WR. Juniors Terrance Cheeks, 6-4, 170, WR-DB; Hayden Ramsey, 5-11, 225, OL-LB; Chase Gonzales, 5-9, 150, RB-DB. Sophomore Chad Baker, 6-4, 215, QB, 6-4, 215.
Outlook: While Arcadia has 14 upperclassmen, it has 21 freshmen and sophomores who will have to be molded, something that Gehrisch believes will take game experience.
“For the future, it bodes well,” Gehrisch said. “Obviously, we’re happy with numbers we have for younger kids. The seniors and juniors are very good leaders.”
Arcadia graduated quarterback Casey Mock, who accounted for more than 2,000 yards of offense in 2012. Baker will take over in that spot.
“We have speed at receiver and in the backfield, and we have a big quarterback with a nice arm,” Gehrisch said. “If we can give him time to give the ball to receivers in space and make plays, we can surprise people.
“We’re not physically big but we’re more aggressive because we know what we’re doing,” Gehrisch said.
