    It was a long time coming, but the Springfield boys made the most of their first Northern Lakes League cross country title Saturday at Secor Park.

    The Blue Devils, led by the first-place individual finish of senior Kohl Taberner (16:12.93), posted 37 points to easily defeat runner-up Perrysburg (63), and the rest of the NLL field.

    Other Blue Devils: senior Phillip Wood (5th, 16:40.46), junior Kyle Shively (6th, 16:42.25), senior Joe Wood (11th), and junior Andrew Messer (14th).

    The boys individual runner-up was Perrysburg senior Andrew Bayes (16:24.47). Northview senior Tyler Rayoum (3rd, 16:28.21).

    Perrysburg dominated the NLL girls competition, defeating second-place Napoleon 23-80. Bowling Green (3rd, 88 points).

    Leading the victorious Yellow Jackets were seniors Taylor Monheim (18:45.74) and Courtney Clody (18:51.67), who placed 1-2 individually. Southview Alex Wainstein (3rd, 18:57.14). Other Jackets scorers: Jordan Doore (5th, 19:20.71), Katie Menke (7th, 19:26.62), and Emily Henry (8th, 19:31.36).

    Start boys, Rogers girls defend titles

    The Start boys and Rogers girls defended their respective titles Saturday in the City League cross country championship meet at Collins Park. Start posted 41 points to edge runner-up Bowsher (46), which had the top two individual finishers in the boys race.

    Seniors Nate Price (16:30.84) and Thomas Heckman (16:39.37) ran 1-2 for the second-place Rebels, while the winning Spartans were paced by the third-place finish of senior Nate Kinor (17:34.63). Heckman was the City League’s 2012 individual champion.

    Other Start finishers: Ethan Pennywitt (8th), John Kennedy (9th), Caleb Campbell (10th), and Josh Yeager (11th).

    Rogers outpointed runner-up Start in the girls race, but it was Bowsher freshman Megan Johnson who took the individual girls title in 21:18.39.

    Other Rogers’ scorers: Sasha Dailey (fourth), Akienreh Johnson (fifth), Becca Lustic (seventh), and Jada Harrell (10th).

    St. Francis de Sales boys, Clay girls win

    FREMONT — The St. Francis de Sales boys repeated their team title, and the Clay girls dominated the girls competition Saturday in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference cross country championship meet at Walsh Park in Fremont.

    The individual boys champion was St. John’s Jesuit junior Tevin Brown, who covered the 5,000-meter course in 16:04.15, and the girls winner was Clay senior Erin Gyurke (17:57.54).

    Other St. Francis scorers: Daniel Siebenaller (third, 16:19.77) in the 5,000-meter course.

    The Knights topped runner-up St. John’s Jesuit 44-56 — David St. John (5th, 16:31.03), Mitch Kaiser (9th, 16:53.34), and Jason White (10th, 16:57.62).

    Fremont Ross boys (3rd, 68 points) led by individual runner-up Louis Guardiola (16:18.44).

    In leading Clay to its first TRAC girls title, Gyurke was well complemented by the Eagles’ three Hess sisters.

    Sophomore twins Haley (2nd, 18:42.85), Hannah (7th, 19:58.07). Freshman Sydney Hess (6th, 19:55.99). Eagles freshman Caitlyn Kuecher (11th, 20:15.05) completed the scoring for Clay, which easily topped runner-up and defending champion Notre Dame 27-72. Whitmer (3rd, 85 points).

    Eagles, Knights repeat in NBC

    FOSTORIA — The Otsego boys and Eastwood girls defended their respective team titles in the Northern Buckeye Conference cross country championship meet Saturday at Fostoria High School.

    Otsego junior Brandon Avers also defended his individual NBC title, covering the course in 16:28.82. The Knights edged runner-up Eastwood 42-47. Woodmore (3rd, 82 points).

    The individual girls champion was Eastwood freshman Hannah Sponaugle (19:39.01), who paced the Eagles’ 20-63 romp over runner-up Otsego. Elmwood (3rd, 69 points).

    Completing the scoring for the Otsego boys were Caleb Baus (4th), Seth Harnishfeger (7th), Tyler Harroun (14th), and Derek Morgan (16th). Lake senior Tyler Rickman (16:47.27) was the individual runner-up. Eastwood Tim Hoodlebrink (3rd, 17:04.68) in the boys race.

    Other Eastwood scorers: Maddie Jackson (third), the 2012 NBC champion, Meagan Kaminski (6th), Ashley Madaras (8th), and Lexi Clark (9th).

    Individual girls runner-up: Woodmore sophomore Courtney Burner (19:56.19). Genoa’s Carly Gose (20:44.69) placed fourth.

    Toledo Christian girls regain TAAC

    The Toledo Christian girls defended their Toledo Area Athletic Conference cross country title Saturday at Maumee Bay State Park, but the Eagles boys were dethroned by team champion Cardinal Stritch.

    In the girls race, TC retained its title by the slimmest of margins (30-31) over runner-up Gibsonburg. Ottawa Hills (3rd, 80 points).

    The Eagles girls were led by individual champion Morgan Dembowski (20:59.9).

    Other TC scorers: Faith Salsbury (5th), Chloe Wotring (8th), and Kavanaugh Phelps (10th).

    Gibsonburg’s Molly Burkett placed second individually at 21:53.1. Emmanuel Christian’s Savannah Holley (3rd, 21:53.5).

    The Cardinal Stritch boys won by an equally slim margin (51-52) over Toledo Christian. Cardinals were paced by Tim Lynn (2nd, 18:15.2) and Nick Korducki (3rd, 18:17.4). The boys individual champion was TC’s Kevin Loeffler (17:47.2). Eagles’ Aaron Dunn (4th). Other Stritch scorers: Nathaniel Kuhn (8th).

    Wauseon girls upset Liberty Center

    METAMORA — The Bryan boys defended their Northwest Ohio Athletic League cross country title Saturday at Evergreen High School, but Wauseon upset two-time defending Division III state girls champion Liberty Center, denying the Tigers a third straight league title.

    Bryan’s beat boys runner-up Liberty center 40-49. Wauseon (3rd, 68 points). In the girls race, Wauseon edged Liberty Center 26-29. Bryan (3rd, 99 points).

    Bryan top scorers: Evan Morr (2nd, 16:32.01), Jacob Will (3rd, 16:43.34),Michael Sheridan (10th) and Brandon Krupp (11th).

    The boys individual champion was Wauseon junior Quintin Reiser (16:17.84), who defended his 2012 NWOAL crown. Winning her third straight girls individual title was Liberty Center junior Brittany Atkinson (18:21.82).

    Wauseon’s Taylor Vernot (2nd) and Aneesa Volkman (3rd). Indians’ had Seneca Wyse (6th), Aleea Volkman (7th), and Kylie Archibeque (8th). Other Tigers scorers: sophomore Olivia Kundo (4th), senior Paige Chamberlain (5th), and freshmen Jenna Vollmar (9th) and Cheryl Davenport (10th).
