Perrysburg’s girls teams cleaned up in the Northern Lakes League this fall.

The Yellow Jackets won at least a share of every girls title.

Perrysburg’s girls won championships in cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.

It’s the first time during Ray Pohlman’s 35 years (the last 10 as Perryburg athletic director) that one school swept all five titles.

“I’m very pleased,” said Pohlman. “I’m happy for our girls. It’s very important for us to have all of our sports programs to be successful.”

Pohlman said the league championships are a testament to the dedication made by the athletes and coaches.

“I can’t say enough of how proud I am of the coaching staff,” he said. “They’re all working with the kids. They’re caring and all encompassing. The coaches understand they're more than just students, they are also students, too.”

Perrysburg’s golf team — which includes senior Monica Dorner and sophomores Katie Diehl, Madison Williams, Sonia Krolak, and Macy Tudor — outdid the rest of the NLL in a major way.

Not only did it win the NLL, but it has earned a trip to the state tournament for the first time in school history after finishing as a district runner-up.

The Yellow Jackets will compete Friday and Saturday in Columbus.

“This team has been a fantastic team,” said Perrysburg golf coach Rick Rettig, who is in his ninth season. “This probably has been my most fun year of coaching golf.”

Rettig said they entered the season hopeful for a good season and kept united with a team slogan, “No excuses, no regrets.”

“We just had a good feeling looking at district, and we felt we had a chance to break through that glass ceiling,” Rettig said.

Rettig credits all the titles to a mindset at Perrysburg.

“How special is that to do it all in the same season?” he said. “It’s a good strong young group of females. They’re all hard workers. I'm so impressed with their work ethic.”

No Yellow Jackets team proved to be more dominant than perhaps the tennis team.

Perrysburg, led by No. 1 doubles team league champions Jordan Spidel and Sarah Fastnacht, finished league dual meet competition with a 7-0 record. Camryn Kiel and Kennedy Northcutt claimed the NLL’s No. 2 doubles title, while No. 2 singles Moira Sams and No. 3 singles Jaden Northcutt also earned championships.

Taylor Monheim and Courtney Clody led the way in cross country with a 1-2 finish in the NLL race.

The soccer team is 11-2-3 and finished 6-0-1 in the NLL, while the volleyball team is 20-2, 14-0 in the NLL.
