The Northview girls basketball team is well-stocked with talented junior players, and now three of them have committed to play at the next level in the Mid-American Conference.

Kendall McCoy, a 6-foot-1 guard-forward, has verbally committed to Miami (Ohio), and Kendall Jessing, a 6-2 center, verbally committed to Ohio.

They join teammate Maddie Cole, a 6-0 guard-forward who had already made her verbal commitment to Bowling Green.

“Miami is a real good fit for Kendall McCoy,” first-year Northview coach Brittaney Cymbolin said. “I know [Miami coach] Cleve Wright, and I know she fits what he wants in a student, a person, and a player.

“She has a lot to bring to the table and I know he’s going to use her talents accordingly.”

McCoy is averaging 12.4 points and 5.8 rebounds for the 10-4 Widcats.

“Kendall Jessing will bring a lot to Ohio University,” Cymbolin said. “She will be a great leader for them and a good kid to have down low to thrive in the post area.”

Jessing is averaging 12.6 points and 7.4 rebounds this season.

Cymbolin also sees BG as a good fit for Cole, who is averaging 10.2 points and 8.3 rebounds.

The Northview coach believes the early commitments will help the performance of her Wildcats the remainder of the season.

“Times have changed, and the NCAA rules have changed,” Cymbolin said of the early recruiting push. “It’s very different than what it used to be.

“I think it does take some pressure off the kids, and it allows them to play more team basketball with that big weight off of their shoulders. Now we can focus on us as a team rather than having those decisions weighing on these kids.”
