Notre Dame starts quickly, ousts Perrysburg

MILLBURY — Behind a red-hot Tierra Floyd, Notre Dame jumped out to a 22-6 first-quarter lead and cruised to a 52-35 victory over Perrysburg today in the Division I girls district basketball final at Lake High School.

Floyd hit three of her four 3-pointers in the game as part of her 13 points in the opening period, and finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the seventh-ranked Eagles (22-3) to their third straight trip to the D-I regionals.

Notre Dame, the Three Rivers Athletic Conference champion, also got 13 points from Mariah Copeland, and 10 points and 10 rebounds from Kaayla McIntyre.

Perrysburg (22-4) has seen its tournament trail end against Notre Dame for three consecutive seasons. The sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets, champions of the Northern Lakes League, got 15 points and 10 rebounds from Allex Brown, and 13 points and 13 rebounds from Sarah Baer.

The Jackets had lost to the Eagles in the regional semifinals in 2012 and 2013. Each year Notre Dame advanced to the state semifinals. The Eagles had also beaten Perrysburg 50-35 in the regular-season finale between the two teams at Perrysburg two weeks ago.
