Area produces state champs in track and field

Plenty of area athletes created season-ending highlights at state track and field championships. But it was field events that stood out this year with state championships won in pole vault, shot put, discus, and high jump at the Ohio championships in Columbus and a long jump title from a southeast Michigan athlete. Power-hitting Maumee reaches regional softball final

Three area softball teams reached the elite eight of the state tournament only to fall short of advancing to final four. Maumee, Elmwood, and Lakota made deep runs in the postseason by reaching regional championships. Maumee (19-11) reached a regional final for the first time since 2001. The Panthers upset Eastwood, Sandusky Perkins, and No. 2-ranked Keystone during the run. READ MORE

Southview, Bryan, Patrick Henry advance to regional baseball finals

In terms of league championships, the 2014 baseball season went pretty much as expected. Come tournament time, however, there were a few surprises. But in tourney play, surprising Southview, which tied for fourth place in the NLL, was the last area team standing in Division I. READ MORE

Titans’ Browns, Irish’s Delp finish strong at state tennis tourney

Brothers Kevin and Ryan Brown of St. John’s Jesuit finished second in doubles at the Division I state tennis tournament. Central Catholic senior Dugan Delp won his third consecutive TRAC No. 1 singles titles and advanced to state for a third consecutive time, where he finished in fourth place.
