    St. John’s, Anthony Wayne win district semifinals at Savage Arena

    St. John’s Jesuit’s vaunted 1-2 scoring punch delivered the knockout Wednesday night, as the fifth-ranked Titans eliminated rival Central Catholic with a 64-32 victory in the Division I boys basketball semifinals at Savage Arena.

    Seniors Vincent Williams and Houston King led St. John’s (21-3) with 23 and 22 points, respectively, as the Titans won their ninth straight game, and advanced to Saturday’s 2 p.m. district final here.

    Toledo Christian, Maumee Valley set up all-TAAC district final in Napoleon

    NAPOLEON — For the 10th year in a row, the TAAC will have a district champion.

    Toledo Christian assured an all-TAAC district final with a 46-34 win over Edgerton in Wednesday’s Division IV opener.

    Maumee Valley Country Day (19-5) was a 56-47 winner over Ottawa Hills in the second semifinal, setting up Friday’s 7 p.m. championship game for the right to play at the regionals in Bowling Green next week.     Williams, Rotroff, Brown, Cooke take top district basketball honors

    St. John’s Jesuit’s Vincent Williams, Wauseon’s Austin Rotroff, Perrysburg’s Ashlynn Brown, and Rogers’ Zia Cooke have collected top individual honors on their respective 2018 Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association all-district boys and girls basketball teams.

    The 6-foot-5 Williams, a four-year player for the Titans, who were 19-3 overall during the regular season, was selected as the boys Division I player of the year after averaging 18.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. He led St. John’s to its second straight 14-0 championship season in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference. FULL STORY
