Right to Life chief no friend to women

12/6/2013

Ohio Right to Life President Mike Gonidakis cannot fool Ohio’s women into thinking he has people’s best interest at heart (“Anti-abortion groups split on Medicaid expansion; 2 pro-life organizations opposed to act, join lawsuit,” Oct. 26).

Backing Medicaid expansion does not make Ohio Right To Life a moderate, nonpartisan lobbying organization. Mr. Gonidakis was a driving force behind using outdated and irrelevant transfer agreements to close Ohio abortion clinics and cutting funding for Planned Parenthood.

Mr. Gonidakis and Ohio Right To Life are solidly in the Tea Party camp, the cruelest and most punitive policy makers since the Joseph McCarthy era. Their absolute goal is to end entitlements and cut the lifeline for poor, working-poor, and middle-class Americans.

The only reason he would support expansion is that he will be responsible for increasing the number of women and children who live in poverty.

Abortions rob county of potential

Your Nov. 23 guest editorial “Tragic child policy” noted: “China now faces the reality that the lower birthrate could weaken economic growth.” This editorial, which cites China’s one-child policy, hits close to home, where Toledo experiences declining population, as well as a large share of Ohio’s abortions.

In May, The Blade reported on Toledo’s population decline as a “hemorrhaging of people.” Last year, Lucas County lost 1,189 human minds to abortion, America’s own “tragic child policy.” Ohio lost 25,473 human minds to population control that masquerades as “choice” but in reality is the forceful taking of human life.

What technological, scientific, economic, and general intellectual advances do Ohio lose to abortion every day? We can only wonder what 1,189 minds and hearts could have done for Toledo.

With the closure and pending closure of Toledo’s abortion mills, it is to be hoped that Toledo’s hemorrhaging will be stanched, and the city will grow.

Take valuables, purses with you

I read in your Nov. 23 edition about all the purses that were stolen from cars. I would think that people would take valuables out of their cars.

When are women going to get smart and start taking their purses with them?

Fix ‘disconnect’ starting in D.C.

If U.S. Rep. Bob Latta (R., Bowling Green) wants to fix the disconnect in Washington, he should start with Congress (“Latta: D.C. disconnect dismays; Business owners complain to congressman about over-regulation,” Nov. 9).

Dog as present? Think adoption

People who consider buying a dog as a present for the holidays should consider adopting one instead. Why buy a dog born in a puppy mill, when dogs are killed in shelters nationwide?
