I enjoyed looking at the photo of the Jeep in May 24’s Blade (“WWII vehicle made here marks holiday; 1942 Willys MB is at Chrysler plant”). It’s exactly like the one I rode in once a week during my three-year tour of duty in the U.S. Army Air Corps in England in World War II.

I could not drive the Jeep because my job of delivering high-level correspondence did not include driving. The drivers’ job did not include handling papers. So off I went every week, sitting in the backseat until we were out of sight of the base. Then I got in the front seat beside the driver.
