Mobile Meals of Toledo, Inc. is putting out a call for teams to compete in the 22nd annual Great Chili Cook-Off on March 29 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Stranahan Great Hall, 4645 Heatherdowns Blvd. The deadline for entries is March 1.

There are four categories of competition: media, restaurant, amateur, and corporate.

Another reason to hurry: Spaces are limited, so form your teams now and put your competitive streaks to good use for a good cause.

Join me in the fun. I’m one of the judges, so come “wow” me! For more information and to download entry forms, go to mobilemeals.org.

Fish Fry?

Is your church or organization hosting a fish fry during Lent? Let me know, so we can be sure everyone else in Toledo knows about it, too.

I’ll need the name of your institution, the address, the dates/times of the dinners, a name and phone number for a contact person, and any other enticement you can offer (i.e.: menu). To meet my print deadline, I will need the information by Wednesday.

Paczki Day

The 24th annual Paczkowy Fest, to benefit One Village Council, will be at 3101 Lagrange St. in the historic Polish Village, at the corner of Lagrange and Central Avenue. More than 1,500 dozen paczki will be sold. Sale times are: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 3, and 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until they sell out) on March 4 (Paczki Day).

Prices are the same as last year: $7/half-dozen, $13/dozen, $10 for Polish coffee cake, $3 for souvenir canvas tote bags. Available flavors to choose from (who can choose just one?) are raspberry, custard, lemon, plain, prune, apricot, blueberry, apple, raisin, and chocolate.

For more information or to discuss pre-ordering (a minimum order of three dozen for pickup, 5 dozen for corporate delivery), contact Chere LeGrant at 419-351-4830 or Dawn Comstock at 419-255-8406 ext. 300.

Pillsbury Bake-Off

The 47th Pillsbury Bake-Off is now taking entries. This is “The Big One” in the contesting world, where 100 finalists will each win a trip to Nashville to compete for the grand prize of $1 million. The competition will be Nov. 2-4, and entries can be submitted during the following periods:

● Simply Sweet Treats and Savory Snacks & Sides: now through March 27.

● Weekend Breakfast Wows and Amazing Doable Dinners: March 27 – May 8.

Recipes will be judged on taste, appearance, creativity, and crowd appeal. For more information, go to pillsbury.com/our-makers/bake-off-contest.
