New Sauder exhibit tells story of grain

Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio’s largest living-history destination, opens on Tuesday and will unveil a new exhibit: “Grain: From Field to Flour” that will focus on the importance of grain in northwest Ohio. On May 19, Richard Anderson, chairman of The Andersons, Inc., will present a lecture to open an agriculture-themed series supported by the Ohio Humanities Council. Additional lectures will be June 9 and Oct. 6.

Another highlight at Sauder Village is the 38th annual Quilt Show, Tuesday through May 4, with more than 400 quilts on display.

Sauder Village admission is $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $10 for students ages 6-16, and free for members and children age 5 and under. For more information, contact Sauder Village at 800-590-9755 or saudervillage.org.

Taco lunch

The northwest Ohio chapter of the National Latino Peace Officer Association is offering a hearty lunch from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, featuring three tacos, lettuce, tomato, cheese, salsa, rice, and beans for $6. Refreshments and spirits will be available for purchase as well, and all proceeds go to support the organization.

Downtown Delights

On May 8 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Downtown Sylvania Associates will host Downtown Delights, inviting visitors to explore the variety of shops and restaurants that make Sylvania unique.

Mother’s Day Tea

The Culinary Vegetable Institute in Milan, Ohio, will host a Mother’s Day Tea from 1 to 3 p.m. May 10. Guests can explore the gardens and then come inside to sample a variety of teas, gourmet finger sandwiches, canapés, petit fours, and sweets made by the CVI’s in-house chefs Jamie Simpson and Ulfet Ralph. Attendees will also be able to stroll through the kitchen and meet with the chefs.

Grand opening

Tom and Chee, a sandwich shop serving new and novel variations on the classic combination of tomato soup and grilled cheese, will host its grand opening on May 9. This is its first outlet in Ohio, and the restaurant invites you to “Eat what's fun!”

Soups and salads complement the sandwiches, which range from a Pep & Chee with pepperoni, tomato sauce, and mozzarella on sourdough bread to a Grilled Cheese Donut that can be filled with either sweet or savory options.
