Way Public Library, 101 E. Indiana Ave. in Perrysburg, is holding its first cake decorating contest. To participate, check out a cake pan from the library’s Baker’s Way cake pan collection, bake and decorate your cake, take a picture of your masterpiece, and submit your photo and entry form by July 7.

Photos of the cakes, which can be for any occasion, will be on display at the library from July 9-26, and everyone can vote for their favorite.

Prizes are being offered for adult, family, teen, and youth categories, and there will be a Judge’s Choice award. Prizes will be announced at the library at 2 p.m. on July 28.

Change of venue

The Polish wedding dinner fund-raiser to help Deacon Michael Pence’s family with medical expenses, being held on June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will take place at St. Hyacinth Church, 728 Parkside Blvd., rather than at the original location of St. Charles Borromeo Church.

For $10 per person, you can enjoy chicken, kielbasa, sweet and sour cabbage, homemade stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner rolls, dessert, and a beverage. Dine in, or carry-out also will be available. There will be door prizes and raffles, as well. For tickets or for more information, call 419-535-7077.

Pappy’s Sassafras

Learn about sassafras tea from Jeff Nordhaus, owner of H & K Products, a third-generation family business producing Pappy’s tea concentrate the old-fashioned way: from sassafras root bark without adding caffeine or sugar. Mr. Nordhaus will speak at the NWO Ag-Business Breakfast Forum, sponsored by the Center for Innovative Food Technology, on Thursday from 8-9:30 a.m.

The all-you-can-eat breakfast costs $10 per person, payable at the door by cash or check; walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are preferred. The program will be at 13737 Middleton Pike near Bowling Green. For more information, call 419-535-6000 ext. 100.

Dairy Days

Dairy Days at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio, are coming up Tuesday through Sunday, in celebration of June being National Dairy Month. “During our Dairy Days event there will be many dairy-themed activities to help guests learn more about the role dairy plays in our lives today and in the lives of the early pioneers,” Sauder Village spokesman Kim Krieger said in a news release.

Planned cooking demonstrations include the making of cottage cheese pudding. Guests also will be able to make ice cream with a hand-crank machine, churn butter, and roll crusts for buttermilk pies.
