    Revolution Grille welcomes new chef

Wesley Wright, formerly of Ciao! Ristorante in Sylvania, is the new chef and general manager at Revolution Grille, 5333 Monroe St.

A graduate of the Connecticut Culinary Institute, Mr. Wright‘s cooking philosophy combines contemporary and classic: “I like to eat and cook based on how I feel and what’s in season, which is a perfect tie into the concept of Revolution Grille.

Here we get to go beyond the traditional and explore really unique flavor combinations, working with seasonal items and just have fun with it.”

Some new menu items include a coconut shrimp wrap, Ragin’ Cajun bean curd, bone marrow in fig balsamic black pepper jam, and a curried chicken sandwich. For a full list of offerings, go to revolutiongrille.com/menu/.

Mr. Wright is supported by a kitchen staff which has traveled extensively.

As a result, he says, “they bring an authentic flare of ethnic influences to the menu. I am surrounded by a staff of talented individuals and together we make a great team.”

    Better Homes and holidays

Better Homes and Gardens magazine is inviting guests to attend a special two-day holiday-themed cooking and dining experience at its test kitchen in Des Moines - the first time that the test kitchen has been open to the public. On Oct. 10 and 11, attendees will enjoy meals, tours, demonstrations, classes, and more. Gayle Butler, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, says that this program lets the staff “invite consumers into our kitchen to engage with editors face to face, meet other entertaining enthusiasts, and learn simple and inexpensive ways to make their holiday table shine.”

A Tastes of the Season dinner to be held on Oct. 11, after the program, will feature a four-course meal accompanied by wine pairings. Attending will be Ms. Butler as well as Deputy Food Editor Nancy Hopkins and Test Kitchen Director Lynn Blanchard.

General admission for the cooking experience, including classes and meals as well as a take-home gift bag valued at $200, costs $395. The Tastes of the Seasons dinner requires separate tickets and costs $150. For more information or to register, go to eventbrite.com and search for the Cooking Experience in Des Moines.
