Harvest Market Dinner helps Toledo GROWS

    • Toledo GROWS Harvest Market Dinner

    Celebrate the season from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the Toledo GROWS Harvest Market Dinner. In keeping with the theme of the festivities, the party will be held at the Toledo Farmers' Market, 525 Market St. The menu will feature more than 20 artisans offering craft beer and creative dishes prepared with fresh, locally grown ingredients.


    Tickets cost $75 apiece or $200 for four; they can be purchased at toledogrows.org/events/harvest-market-dinner. All proceeds will benefit Toledo GROWS, which supports more than 130 school, faith-based, and neighborhood gardens throughout the community.

    As a special treat, tours of the organization’s urban farm, at 900 Oneida St., will be offered from 5 to 5:45 p.m. ahead of the event.

    For the Love of PIE

    From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, celebrate both PIE (Partners in Education) and pie at a party being held at the Toledo Club, 235 14th St. Local bakeries will be competing to win ribbons from the judges as well as the coveted People’s Choice Award.

    Competitors include Bakery Unlimited, Brieschke’s Bakery, the Cinnamon Stick Bakery, Lamplight Cafe and Bakery by Extra Virgin, MacQueen Orchards, Michael’s Café and Bakery, Original Sub Shop and Deli, Penta Career Center Culinary Arts, Rachel Williams Baked Goods, Schmucker's Restaurant, the Toledo Club, and Wixey Bakery.

    Partners in Education is a nonprofit organization that supports area students from pre-K through 12th grade by fostering relationships between schools, businesses, government agencies, and religious organizations.

    Tickets cost $35 apiece; sponsorships are also available at three levels — $500, $1,000, and $2,500. For more information and to purchase advance tickets, go to partnerstoledo.org/love or call 419-242-2122; tickets will also be sold at the door.

    Toledo Area VegBash

    The first area VegBash was such a success that the event will return to Toledo from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday; this event will be held at the SeaGate Convention Centre, 401 Jefferson Ave.

    Vegetarian and vegan vendors will include Balance Pan-Asian Grille, Cocina de Carlos, the Leaf and Seed, Manhattan’s Pub n’ Cheer, Nosh Pit Detroit, Stella’s, Tiger Bakery, and Veg-o-Rama. Live music, a cash bar, and a cruelty-free shopping area will add to the fun.

    Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door for adults; children under 12 can attend for free. Each ticket includes $5 in food vouchers, with suggested prices of $5 for small plates and $10 for dinner plates. (Expenditures beyond the ticket allowance can be paid in cash directly to the vendors.)

    Rasa collecting toiletries

    Rasa Restaurant and Bar, 2633 W. Bancroft St., plans to be open from 12 to 3 p.m. on Dec. 25 to serve those who are homeless. The staff would like to provide each guest with a grooming pack of travel-size toiletries: items such as toothpaste and brushes, mouthwash, cotton swabs, soap, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products. They are starting to gather the items now, which can be dropped off at the restaurant. Money also may be contributed, and the funds will be used to supplement what is collected.
