COLUMBUS — Gov. John Kasich on Thursday signed a pair of bills designating the first Friday of May as “Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness and Education Day” and March 9 as “Meningitis Awareness Day” in Ohio.

House Bill 399, the prescription drug bill, was sponsored by Reps. Mike Sheehy (D., Oregon) and Robert Sprague (R., Findlay) and coincides with other efforts on Mr. Kasich’s desk to combat a growing prescription painkiller and heroin addiction in the state.

Senate Bill 275, the meningitis-awareness bill, was sponsored by Sen. Cliff Hite (R., Findlay).
