ProMedica Health System, the largest hospital system in the Toledo area, may soon get even bigger. ProMedica officials announced today that Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe could soon be the latest hospital to merge with ProMedica.

Mercy Memorial‘s board of trustees signed a letter of intent to join ProMedica after meeting to discuss the merger, ProMedica officials said.

“Our two organizations have much in common as we work toward the greater good for residents of our region. Both ProMedica and Mercy Memorial Hospital System have a strong, patient-centered approach to health care and mission-driven cultures. Together, we will be able to enhance our shared vision and primary goal of always serving the needs of the community,” said ProMedica President and Chief Executive Officer Randy Oostra in a written statement.

When the merger is complete this would be the third hospital operated by ProMedica in Michigan. Bixby Hospital in Adrian and Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh are also part of the hospital system. Other ProMedica hospitals in the area include: Toledo and Toledo Children’‍s Hospital, Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Bay Park Hospital in Oregon, St. Luke‘‍s Hospital in Maumee, Defiance Regional Hosptial, Fostoria Regional Hospital, and Lima Memorial Health System.
