Wolverines defeat Minnesota 42-13

    FINAL

    ANN ARBOR - Fitzgerald Toussaint scored two touchdowns and Devin Funchess caught seven passes for 151 yards to help No. 19 Michigan to a 42-13 win over Minnesota today at Michigan Stadium.

    Toussaint's first-quarter touchdown helped the Wolverines (5-0) take a 14-7 lead at halftime. Michigan opened its lead to 21-7 less than five minutes into the third quarter on Derrick Green's touchdown, and Toussaint scored his second touchdown with 11 seconds left in the third.

    Maxx Williams scored Minnesota's only touchdown for Minnesota (4-2), a 7-yard catch with 52 seconds left in the first quarter, and Chris Hawthorne kicked a pair of second-half field goals for the Golden Gophers.

    Devin Gardner and Blake Countess (72-yard interception return) scored Michigan's fourth-quarter touchdowns.

    Michigan faces Penn State at 5 p.m. Oct. 12 in State College, Pa.

     

    THIRD QUARTER

    Derrick Green's third-quarter touchdown has helped Michigan take a 28-10 lead over Minnesota after the third quarter today at Michigan Stadium.

    Chris Hawthorne kicked a 44-yard field goal for Minnesota with 4:26 left in the third, and with 11 seconds left in the quarter, Fitzgerald Toussaint scored his second touchdown of the game, a 12-yard run to give the Wolverines an 18-point lead.

    Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner is 11 of 14 passing with 167 yards through three quarters.

    FIRST HALF

    Devin Gardner's 24-yard touchdown pass to Devin Funchess with 1:25 left in the first half helped the Michigan football team take a 14-7 lead over Minnesota at halftime today at Michigan Stadium.

    Michigan took a 7-0 lead on Fitzgerald Toussaint's 8-yard touchdown run less than five minutes into the first, and Minnesota responded with a 16-play, 75-yard drive to tie the game at 7-7 with 52 seconds left in the first on Maxx Williams' 7-yard touchdown catch.

    Funchess leads No. 19 Michigan with four catches for 60 yards, while Gardner is 7 for 9 passing for 82 yards.
